When it comes to our skin, we all want the same look: dewy, fresh, youthful-looking, and most importantly, wrinkle free.

But to achieve that, many of us feel that we need to go under the knife or book a Botox appointment, which is not an easy task for the faint hearted.

As well as the risk of a procedure going wrong, the idea of cosmetic surgery is frightening to a lot of women, not to mention seriously pricey.

So, when VIP heard about a professional skincare range that has finally arrived in Ireland which gives the effects of Botox without the scary needles, I signed myself up to try it out, pronto.

I was promised that international skincare range Juliette Armand’s Skin Boostersperformed ‘miracles’ to restore the firmness of skin, so I headed to Buff Day Spa in Dublin to check it out for myself.

As soon as I arrived in the spa I was kindly offered a fluffy robe and instructed to relax in the sauna or tranquility area before the treatment, and any nerves for what I envisioned as an invasive treatment melted away.

I need not have worried – my lovely beauty therapist Abi Baronetti calmly explained the process and told me that although the aim of the range is to banish wrinkles, it is totally gentle on the skin.

Abi told me that I would be getting the Thavma ‘Miracle’ Therapy (€75 – €99), which I would then follow up with aftercare products Thavma Lift Anti-wrinkle Serum (€79), Thavma Lift Anti-wrinkle Cream (€95) and Opsis Lift Anti-wrinkle eye cream (€79).

I was informed of the fascinating science behind the treatment – it works by using its cutting edge technology EFFECTOX™, a cocktail of peptides and new generation active ingredients that inhibit the mechanism responsible for the creation of expression lines and wrinkle, meaning when you laugh, frown, smile and squint, the lines don’t crease up as much!

They also contain Leuphasyl, which relaxes the muscle along with avocado oil, Vitamin A and E. The Thava ‘Miracle’ Therapy involves exfoliation to remove dead skin cells, followed by the application of two masks as well as a HEAVENLY scalp massage.

After an extremely relaxing facial, which was not in the slightest invasive as I had anticipated, I must admit I was feeling a little sceptical of how much of an instant result the treatment would have on my skin. But when Abi lowered the mirror to my face I couldn’t believe it – as well as my skin looking plump, firm and hydrated, and the faint lines in my forehead had visibly faded.

Although my skin is relatively young, Abi explained that the range is for preventative care, which will keep wrinkles at bay in the future. A total of ten treatments is recommended for those who want to see a 75% reduction in wrinkles, which is similar to the effects of having botox without putting a foreign substance in your skin.

Since the superb in-salon treatment, I’ve been religiously using the after care products and I can honestly say my skin has never looked or felt better.

Juliette Armand Skin Booster Treatment at Buff Day Spa: Review

I’ve been blogging and writing about beauty for a while now so it was an unexpected pleasure to experience two recent beauty firsts – my first experience with Juliette Armand, and first visit to Buff Day Spa.Located beside the Gaiety theatre for over a decade, I’ve passed Buff on countless occasions without ever really noticing it was there – the entrance is fairly unassuming, but once you’ve climbed up the fairly narrow staircase you emerge into a spacious and relaxing space, which is spread over several floors.

Along with various treatment rooms and manicure/pedicure stations, there’s a sauna and relaxation room, and a compact changing room that’s well stocked with complimentary teas and water, spa sandals, robes and towels.

I was there to meet Marsha Abrahams – who co-founded the spa but has since moved on to work with the skincare brand, Juliette Armand – and to experience a Skin Boosters treatment.

Skin Boosters is a targeted skincare range, which includes both in-salon treatments and a range of homecare products. It’s been around for 11 years and positions itself as a non-invasive alternative to botox or plastic surgery. In reality, no topical treatment or cream will give you the same results as botox or surgery, but the products are impressive nonetheless, containing active ingredients that work to plump up and hydrate the skin.

I had the Thavma ‘Miracle’ therapy, which involves exfoliation to remove dead skin cells, followed by the application of two masks packed with peptides and hydrating ingredients. There’s a scalp massage too, which was gorgeous and, combined with the sounds of trickling water and soothing music, proved very soporific.

New Salon owner Olivia Boyle, qualified as a therapist 6 years ago talks to us about her new businesses and the Juliette Armand Skincare range. Olivia opened her Beauty Salon – Olivia’s Beauty Parlour in Donegal, just a few months ago and exclusively stocks the Juliette Armand and Skin Boosters products.

What made you want to set up your own business? I really enjoyed working in a Salon while covering a maternity leave and this love inspired me to set up my own business.

What has been the hardest thing about opening a new salon? Unfortunately I wasn’t given any assistant or a start-up grants so trying to pay for everything has definitely been the hardest thing.

What is the best thing about having your own place? Definitely being your own boss and making your own decisions

Hyaluronic Acid Serum, I love the way it leaves your skin super soft. I also like the way it doesn’t leave skin greasy.

What is the best comment that you have heard a customer exclaim after a Juliette Armand treatment? How firm and toned their skin feels. They love the fact that these facials don’t leave their skin really red.

What would you say to anyone thinking about using this range? Most definitely YES, I would highly recommend this range to anyone. I believe it does exactly what it says on the tin! J

Pregnancy and children can wreak havoc on our skin. Suddenly you look in the mirror and realise that you’re not actually looking after yourself – at all. Some of us went out in the sun too much, some of us smoke(d) or we are just simply getting older. Children tend to, even if it is just temporary, bring out the worst in our skin. But there’s hope, and it doesn’t involve cowering cross-eyed with a syringe approaching your frown line.

The world of skincare has really upped its game. The exciting news is that skincare products are getting nearer to keeping botox away. As a willing guinea pig, I’ve been trying out a few products:

1. Juliette Armand- Thavma Salon Treatment at The Buff Day Spa, Dublin 2

I recently received a divine treatment at the Buff Day Spa, where they use Greek skincare brand Thavma Therapy, which is new to Ireland. Having identified some skin dehydration, I live on coffee (wrist slap), the therapist started with a deep cleansing treatment, a glycolic peel and finally the signature Thavma serum, followed by a deep massage. I was then left to relax for a little while, which was heavenly. Following a detailed inspection under the bright lights my skin looked plumped, de-stressed, de-lined and pretty. I have been using the cleanser, serum and cream since and I’m delighted with the results.

Our Verdict

The serum and cream combo have the most uplifting olfactory properties I have ever come across, and I’ve worked as a beauty editor for over five years. There’s a faint aroma of blackcurrant. I know that doesn’t sound particularly appealing (especially if you’ve got little ones who love their Ribena) but trust me, try it out and you’ll see what I mean.

To get the full botox effect it’s recommended that you attend 10 facials over four weeks. Personally, that’s a bit much to fit into my routine, but the aftercare products really are a pamper worthy of you! Buy Products right now or Book in for a Facial
