Hydration by Clare O’Hanlon, Business Development Manager, Juliette Armand Skincare

Dehydrated skin is the most confused skin condition going. It has the same characteristics as dry skin yet they differ because dry skin means your lacking oil in the skin and dehydrated skin means your lacking water in the skin. When the skin is dehydrated it will feel tight (especially after a shower) flaky, rough, fine lines seem more pronounced and the skin can look aged to. No matter how much water you drink, you must remember our skin is the last organ to get water so the use of hydration products are needed. When skin feels dry but is also oily we need hydration products that are oil free.

Hyaluronic Acid is the most effective moisturising ingredient for hydration and is a structural component of the connective tissue of the skin. It can retain up to 1000 times its weight in water, which is gradually released, thus enhancing skin moisture. Hyaluronic acid benefits in tissue repair, boosts elasticity of the skin and gives the skin a youthful appearance.

Hyaluronic acid can be applied topically as serums, moisturisers, masks and fillers. These products are important for everyday use as the skin can easily become dehydrated from the weather, central heating, diet, alcohol based products and even drinking alcohol (ever notice you have extra lines after a night out?) And the best news is that hyaluronic acid doesn’t contain oil so there is no fear of breakouts, shine, blackheads or making the skin oilier if it is naturally.

Never underestimate dehydrated skin, because if untreated the fine line become wrinkles and they are harder to treat!
